The Astronauts - Peter Pan Hits The Suburbs (Lossless) [1994]

"Peter Pan Hits The Suburbs" was released in 1981 to widespread acclaim. Incredibly it received great reviews in virtually all the UK music press. The typical Astronauts audience at the time was largely hardcore punks attracted by the energetic gigs and a handful of hippies so the album was something of a surprise. Full of heartfelt folk ballads and featuring legendary jazz saxophonist Lol Coxhill the album was not what fans had expected but appealed to a different audience. The contradiction of heavy chaotic punk performances and structured melodic alternative pop/folk/ambient songs continues to this day.

The first LP (Genius 001) re-released on CD by Lazy Dog Records.

Love And Rockets - Love And Rockets (224Kbps VBR) [1989]

Band info (wikipedia)
Love and Rockets is the fourth album by the British band Love and Rockets, released in 1989 on Beggar's Banquet.
Love and Rockets dismissed Earth, Sun, Moon's folk sound in favour of a stronger rock & roll sound. Hints of the band's former psychedelic and gothic rock sound remained. Chief songwriters Daniel Ash and David J had begun concentrating strictly on their own material (rather than writing together) on Earth, Sun, Moon. By the time of Love and Rockets, their creative partnership had clearly all but dried up, as the album lurches back and forth between Ash's tech-savvy modern pop and J's bluesier, grittier experiments.
The album featured Love and Rockets' biggest hit, the Ash-penned "So Alive". The song was a surprising #3 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and stayed at #1 for five weeks on the US Mainstream Rock chart. Because of the popularity of the single in the US, Love and Rockets became the band's best-selling album in America.
After the release of the album, the band embarked on a long worldwide tour. Afterwards, instead of recording a new album and a follow-up single to "So Alive", J and Ash both focused on their solo careers, continuing in the directions represented on this album. They each released two solo albums in the break (with drummer Kevin Haskins working primarily with Ash) before returning as a band to record Hot Trip to Heaven in 1994.
In 2002, the album was remastered and expanded into a double album. The bonus tracks featured a single remix, three b-sides, all five songs from the aborted Swing! EP, and a radio session. The Swing! project was to be an outlet for some of the band's stranger output, but the material was never released, except for "Bad Monkey", which ended up on the Glittering Darkness EP in 1996.
"The Purest Blue" is a radical reworking of "Waiting for the Flood" from Earth, Sun, Moon, and "**** (Jungle Law)" was later reworked as "Bad Monkey", recorded as part of the Swing! project.

Album presentation:
A Live DVD+CD document of contemporary wire, recorded in april 2004, at the three-city triptych festival in scotland. Honed to a fine performance edge from their live forays to europe earlier in the year, wire present their fierce, high-velocity set based around the 2003 album 'send', with encores including 'strange', '106 beats that', 'surgeon's girl', and 'pink flag'. their first album in over a decade, 'send' marked a return to their trademark gimlet, shivved, short sharp shocked writing style. Filmed by visual artist Tom Gidley in forensic detail, this document shows the complete visceral set and deliberately excludes the usual rock music celebration of place and time, instead concentrating on giving the viewer the closest of contact with a band often misrepresented as enigmatic, cold and distant. Also included is a bonus selection of pieces captured by observation camera #1 of the second half of wire's april 2003 "flag:burning" performance installation at the only connect festival at the Barbican, London. The set by avant stage designer Es Devlin was specifically commissioned by wire for this one-off performance. Whilst based on the same body of work as the performance at triptych, this is wire seen from the other end of the telescope, willingly surrendering their personal performance to the service of the machinery of a unique, complex theatrical spectacle in a manner rarely allowed in the rock world rife with ego and self-aggrandisement. The accompanying CD features unedited 60 minute audio from the tryptich section of the DVD, and both discs are presented in a CD-Size gatefold digipak case.
